On Deaf ears

The poor drainage system in most Nigerian states can drive one insane. The rains are  pouring everyday, with today's rain heavier than the previous. Most drainage points are spilling over as a result of poor storm drain system.

As an eye witness to today's near accident , a returning student almost got drowned as he tried jumping over a flooded street gutter which he crosses successfully on other days, I recalled the incessant radio calls on parents to warn their wards on crossing flooded drainage.

Then I imagined a typical modern Nigerian home where radio sets have been abolished, the television sets are always tuned to DSTV network, local broadcasting services are forgotten.

How then do we get informed on things happening around us? YES the Internet serves greater purposes than can ever be imagined, how many kids have access? Our school system does their best , the rest is to us - family, guardian, community. Let our best foot be put forth to community service. Be the radio set.
